Fire destroys trailer in Abington

By Amy Littlefield The Patriot Ledger Posted Feb 19, 2010 @ 04:27 AM ABINGTON — A fire consumed a camping trailer being used for storage in a wooded area in Abington, a fire official said. The fire broke out at about 1:40 p.m. Thursday on wooded property behind 209 Rockland St., Capt. Edward Belcher of the Abington Fire Department said. The house belonged to Curtis Ford. The crew aboard a television news helicopter alerted the firefighters after spotting the blaze below, Belcher said. When firefighters arrived, the 20-by-12-foot trailer was engulfed in flames. An investigation to determine the fire’s cause was begun, Belcher said. Firefighters had to use a brush truck to reach the fire, which took about two hours to extinguish, Belcher said. He said the trailer and all of its contents were destroyed. He estimated the damages at $1,000.
